Statistics and probability arrive as short word problems: means (including combined means), medians and spread intuition, Venn and tree diagrams, and conditional probability phrased as 'given that'. The maths is GCSE-level; the test is translating prose into structure without misreading 'at least' or 'given'.
Classic errors: confusing P(A|B) with P(B|A), double-counting intersections in Venn problems, and averaging averages without weighting. Write the sample space or tree explicitly for anything conditional — intuition alone misfires.
